A recent weight victory has been the ability to use Boy Scout knee socks again.  Previously, they got stuck on my calf and just fell down, now they come within an inch or so of my knee and I was keen to show this off.  The socks went on, I donned my Scout uniform, and went to camp for a day of sock showcasing and photography.  The heavy cotton/poly blend protected me from grass, mud, and thorn bushes as I captured toasty pics and it was awesome… until about 10 AM.  Heavy cotton/poly socks are heavy socks and my shoes quickly saturated with my own sweat.  My legs got quite hot so I rolled the socks down which looked ridiculous as I had two pounds of sock around my ankle.  Never again, or at least until September.

Life Lesson: Just because you can wear knee socks doesn’t mean you should.

Dad:  What are all the packages?
Me: Socks.  I finished my 12 part sock bracket and the Thorlo Unisex Wool padded hiker and Wigwam Merino Wool comfort hiker socks won.  I guess it was more efficient to have four smaller boxes or they came from different sources.
Dad:  I wish you had told me.
Me: About my socks?
Dad: Yes, I just purchased 12 pair of crappy Hanes when I realized that life was too short to wear bad socks.
Me:  You can always give the socks to Max [our dog, a prodigious thief of socks. -Ed.], he’d love you forever if you did.
Dad: He’s a dog, he already does.
Me: But now he’d love you forever, and have a sock to show for it.

In 2007, I began the great underwear search and after starting with 12 different pairs, concluded that UnderArmour standard length were the appropriate pair for me and I’ve never looked back.  A little bit later, I purchased 8 of the same blue shirt which I’ve worn since and now my socks have come under the microscope as all my socks start to cause blisters after 3.5 or more miles at 3.2 MPH or faster on my treadmill.  I’ve purchased a dozen pairs in different lengths, fibers, and types and have started my next bout of experiment which explains why you may not see my socks match.  Originally, I was going to go for statistical rigor with a confidence level of 95% but this would have necessitated 10 years to finish assuming I did one challenge a day.
